Today I want to talk to you about this mysterious train which I discovered existed a few days ago … I don’t know if you already know it but for me it was a real discovery.
The Oriental Desert Express is a privately chartered tourist train that covers the route between Oujda and Bouarfa. It runs along a little-used railway line near the Algerian border and was used in the 2015 film Specter. So does Agent 007 James Bond’s train really exist? Yes, but we will not have the pleasure of traveling in luxurious wagons like those in the film !! Which I honestly don’t mind. You can choose to travel in first class with air conditioning or second class with the windows opening.
In the heart of the plain of the Souss region, Taliouine is a pretty Berber town located 119 km from Taroudannt, 1500 m above sea level and located in an area of impressive beauty. This small Anti-Atlas village holds a treasure: one of the most expensive spices in the world. It is the saffron capital of Morocco. With its unique aroma derived from violet flowers, saffron is called “the roots of the earth”.
Dirigendosi verso l’Alto Atlante scoprirai uno dei percorsi più spettacolari del Marocco, una strada che porta al passo Tizi n’Test (2092 metri) per poi scendere nella pianura del Souss. Da numerosi punti lungo la strada si può godere di un panorama mozzafiato, ma se siete al volante fate attenzione, perché oltre alle numerose curve è possibile che il tempo cambi repentinamente. Durante l’inverno, inoltre, nuvole basse e nebbia possono ridurre la visibilità o addirittura bloccare il passo in caso di forti nevicate e il bordo della strada sembra sempre troppo vicino al precipizio!! I colonialisti francesi costruirono la strada tra il 1926 e il 1932 e fu la prima a dare la possibilità di collegare Marrakech alla pianura del Souss, alle montagne e al Sahara. Lungo il percorso potrai approfittare per fare soste nella graziosa cittadina di Ourigane e nella Moschea Tinmal.
