MOROCCO ACQUIRES THE FIRST BATCH OF THE VACCINE AGAINST THE COVID-19 VIRUS

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and the high solicitude and human benevolence with which the Sovereign has never ceased to surround all the components of the Moroccan people since the appearance of the first cases of the coronavirus in Morocco, in order to protect the health and safety of citizens, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, gave His High Instructions to launch a national mass vaccination campaign, with the aim of achieving collective immunity which will reduce the number contaminations and deaths due to this epidemic.

In application of the High Royal Guidelines, the Kingdom of Morocco has acquired an endowment in vaccines for the benefit of 33 million inhabitants (66 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine). He received today, Friday January 22, 2021, the first batches of the British vaccine “Astra-Zeneca” manufactured in the Republic of India, and will receive the first batches of the vaccine “Sinopharm”, Wednesday January 27, 2021 from the People’s Republic of China.

To this end, the national vaccination campaign will be officially launched, and gradually over the next week. This campaign plans to cover target categories, starting with the people most exposed to the Covid-19 disease and its complications, namely: Health Professionals aged 40 and over, Staff of Public Authorities and the Forces Royal Armies as well as National Education Personnel from the age of 45, in addition to people aged 75 and over. This operation will also include, in a first phase, areas with high rates of cases of Covid-19 contamination.

It should be noted that the two aforementioned vaccines, which were chosen by the Kingdom, were manufactured in accordance with International Standards, affirming their effectiveness and safety.

In addition, the Ministry of Health stresses the need to continue and maintain compliance with preventive measures including wearing a mask, respecting physical distancing and general hygiene rules, throughout the national operation of vaccination.

In addition, the Ministry of Health will provide all the information relating to the national vaccination campaign, through audiovisual, radio and electronic media which will be broadcast on national TV and radio channels and on the ministry’s social networks as well as on the Internet.
