BERBER MUSEUM OF THE MAJORELLE GARDEN

The Berber Museum, inaugurated in 2011 under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, Re is housed in the former painting studio of the artist Jacques Majorelle. It presents a panorama of the extraordinary creativity of the Berbers (Imazighen), the oldest people in North Africa. More than 600 objects, collected from the Rif al Sahara mountains by Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent, attest to the richness and diversity of this vibrant culture, which is still very much alive today.

The collection is displayed in four distinct spaces, each dedicated to a particular theme. Before entering the exhibition halls, we are presented with an overview of the history of the Berber people (Imazighen) of Morocco and a map showing the location of the main Berber tribes across the country. Audiovisual elements are used in the museum to enhance visitors’ appreciation of Berber culture.

DAR EL BACHA – MUSEUM OF THE CONFLUENCES

Dar El Bacha is located at the entrance of the Medina.. It is considered one of the most beautiful palaces of the city. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century by Thami El Glaoui (named Pacha of Marrakech by Sultan Moulay Youssef). In 2017, the Dar El Bacha Palace is transformed into the Museum of the Confluences. Rooms with columns covered with Zellij and chiselled stuccoes are laid around an arabian garden. The rest of the decoration is breathtaking: cedar doors worked by hand, ceilings painted with geometric and floral motifs. As you can see, Dar El Bacha is already a museum in itself!

BAB AGNAOU GATE

Bab Agnaou is one of the most famous gates in Marrakech. Its construction is attributed to the Almohad caliph Abu Yusuf Ya’qub al-Mansur and was completed around 1188 or 1190. The gate was the main public entrance to the royal kasbah (citadel) in the southern part of Marrakesh’s medina. The Kasbah, built by Yaqub al-Mansur, is the site of the nearby El Mansouria Mosque (or Kasbah Mosque) and the Saadian Tombs behind it, as well as the El Badi Palace and the main Royal Palace (Dar al-Makhzen) of la city.
