TANJIA MARRAKCHIA

If you come to visit Marrakech, you cannot leave without having eaten the Tanjia! But what is tanjia? A long time ago, when I discovered the method and places of its cooking, I was in shock!
First of all, tanjia is a traditional dish from Marrakech and should not be confused with tajine, which is another traditional Moroccan dish in general. These two dishes have only one thing in common: they are named after the jars in which they are cooked! In fact, the tanjia is cooked in an earthenware container similar to a jar. There is a lot to say about this dish … it is a meat based dish (lamb, veal or chicken) with the addition of oil, garlic, saffron, cumin, salted lemon, turmeric water and the famous “smen”, a kind of salted butter … difficult to contextualize!

BAB AGNAOU GATE

Bab Agnaou is one of the most famous gates in Marrakech. Its construction is attributed to the Almohad caliph Abu Yusuf Ya’qub al-Mansur and was completed around 1188 or 1190. The gate was the main public entrance to the royal kasbah (citadel) in the southern part of Marrakesh’s medina. The Kasbah, built by Yaqub al-Mansur, is the site of the nearby El Mansouria Mosque (or Kasbah Mosque) and the Saadian Tombs behind it, as well as the El Badi Palace and the main Royal Palace (Dar al-Makhzen) of la city.

CHROB OU CHOUF FOUNTAIN

Once the imperial city of Morocco, Marrakech is a city filled with historical monuments and structures that depict the city’s breathtaking history. With the picturesque Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, Marrakech welcomes thousands of visitors each year, who come to the city to explore its magnificent landscapes and discover attractions that mostly only locals know about. Some monuments are passed through without travelers even realizing their significance. One of the unusual and spectacular attractions of the city is the Chrob ou Chouf fountain.
