TANJIA MARRAKCHIA

If you come to visit Marrakech, you cannot leave without having eaten the Tanjia! But what is tanjia? A long time ago, when I discovered the method and places of its cooking, I was in shock!
First of all, tanjia is a traditional dish from Marrakech and should not be confused with tajine, which is another traditional Moroccan dish in general. These two dishes have only one thing in common: they are named after the jars in which they are cooked! In fact, the tanjia is cooked in an earthenware container similar to a jar. There is a lot to say about this dish … it is a meat based dish (lamb, veal or chicken) with the addition of oil, garlic, saffron, cumin, salted lemon, turmeric water and the famous “smen”, a kind of salted butter … difficult to contextualize!

OZOUD WATERFALLS

Approximately 167 km northeast of Marrakech are the most spectacular waterfalls in Morocco, an experience that would be a real shame to miss. It is possible to carry out this excursion in the space of a day, by renting a car or by booking a group or private excursion.
The waterfalls are a popular attraction for both tourists and Moroccans, especially on weekends and in the summer. The Oued Ozoud (which means river Ozoud: the term Ozoud in Berber means “olives” and refers to the cultivation of olive trees in the area), falls for about 110 meters on three levels in the gorge of Oued El Abid.

ESSAOUIRA – THE PEARL OF THE ATLANTIC

Along the Atlantic coast of Morocco, west of Marrakech, is the city of Essaouria, famous above all for its sensational Medina on the sea inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The fortress, the white and iridescent walls, the relaxation of its inhabitants, the Kasbah, the artisan shops, make this city unique and with a European flavor: in 1756 the French made it a perfect example of military architecture and enriched it with walls, towers , bastions and gates managing to perfectly combine the Arab-Muslim culture with that of the overseas. Essaouria, originally called Mogador, meaning a small fortress, has always been an important port that connects Morocco with the rest of Africa and Europe.

BAB AGNAOU GATE

Bab Agnaou is one of the most famous gates in Marrakech. Its construction is attributed to the Almohad caliph Abu Yusuf Ya’qub al-Mansur and was completed around 1188 or 1190. The gate was the main public entrance to the royal kasbah (citadel) in the southern part of Marrakesh’s medina. The Kasbah, built by Yaqub al-Mansur, is the site of the nearby El Mansouria Mosque (or Kasbah Mosque) and the Saadian Tombs behind it, as well as the El Badi Palace and the main Royal Palace (Dar al-Makhzen) of la city.
